Spread the love

Air Date: December 18, 2011
Written by: Atsushi Maekawa
Directed by: Hiroshi Kōjina

Summary:

The group faces their final challenge in Trick Tower, pushing their trust and resolve to the limit. With only minutes remaining, they must make a crucial decision to escape before time runs out.

Key Plot Points:

  1. The Final Choice:
    • The last challenge presents the candidates with two paths: a longer route where they can all escape together, or a shortcut that only one person can take.
    • The group must make a unanimous decision, testing their trust and priorities.
  2. Sacrifice and Trust:
    • After some debate, Gon and his friends choose the longer path, deciding that leaving no one behind is more important than winning quickly.
    • Their trust in one another deepens, showing how far they’ve come as a team.
  3. The Narrow Escape:
    • With seconds to spare, the group makes it out of Trick Tower, proving their resolve and teamwork.

Highlights:

  • Moral Dilemma:
    • The episode introduces a thought-provoking dilemma about self-interest versus loyalty to the team.
  • Emotional Bonding:
    • The group’s choice to stay together cements their friendship, making their journey even more meaningful.

Quotes:

  • “Winning alone isn’t winning at all.” – Gon
  • “We’ve made it this far together. We’ll finish together too.” – Killua

Themes and Motifs:

  • Sacrifice and Loyalty: The decision to stick together shows the importance of loyalty, a central theme in the series.
  • Time and Pressure: The episode emphasizes how pressure can reveal a person’s true character.

My Thoughts:

At the beginning of episode 12 the four and plus one are stuck in a solitary room for their 50-hour penalty from Leeorios bet gone wrong.  Once they are released they are faced with a challenge that seems like they have no chance of winning.

Gon literally chooses both of the two options with out knowing it and ultimately takes the entire team through the third phase with his calm leadership and cool demeanor.
