Introduction: In the second episode of Assassination Classroom, titled “Baseball Time,” the focus shifts from individual efforts to teamwork and strategy. The students of Class 3-E continue their mission to assassinate Koro-sensei, but they quickly realize that brute force alone won’t be enough to defeat their formidable teacher. This episode introduces new dynamics and characters, adding depth to the series’ already engaging premise.

Episode Summary: The episode begins with Koro-sensei taking a particular interest in baseball, which draws the attention of Sugino, one of the students. Sugino was once a star pitcher on the school’s baseball team before being demoted to Class 3-E. He decides to use his skills to try and assassinate Koro-sensei, crafting a plan that relies on precision and timing.

However, Sugino’s attempt fails spectacularly. Koro-sensei catches the ball effortlessly and even offers Sugino advice on how to improve his technique. This moment highlights Koro-sensei’s role as both a target and a mentor, showing his willingness to help his students succeed—even when they’re trying to kill him.

The episode also introduces a key lesson: the importance of strategy and teamwork. Koro-sensei demonstrates that without careful planning and cooperation, the students’ efforts will continue to fall short. This lesson becomes crucial as the class starts to understand that their mission will require more than just physical attacks—it will require them to think and act as a cohesive unit.

Character Focus:

  • Tomohito Sugino: Sugino’s background as a former athlete adds a layer of depth to his character, revealing his insecurities and struggles after being demoted to Class 3-E. His failed assassination attempt, coupled with Koro-sensei’s guidance, sets the stage for his development throughout the series.
  • Koro-sensei: Once again, Koro-sensei’s dual nature is on full display. While he remains the target of the students’ assassination attempts, he continues to provide genuine support and advice, encouraging them to learn and grow.

Themes and Analysis: “Baseball Time” emphasizes the importance of strategy and collaboration. It shows that success—whether in baseball, academics, or assassination—requires more than just individual talent. The episode also explores the idea of failure as a stepping stone to improvement. Sugino’s experience teaches the students that they must learn from their mistakes, a theme that will be recurring throughout the series.

Conclusion: Episode 2 of Assassination Classroom adds a new layer to the story by focusing on teamwork and strategy. As the students of Class 3-E continue their mission, they begin to realize that they must work together if they hope to succeed. With Koro-sensei as both their target and their mentor, the lines between teacher and assassin blur, creating a compelling narrative that keeps viewers engaged.

My Thoughts:

The Sensei of tentacles and apparently life lessons shows a more motivational side of him or herself during this second installment of Assassination Classroom.

From lessons about baseball ironically to practical life lessons he really implores the students to look beyond just their goal (of killing him) and to think outside of the box with their life’s problems.

The students are taking detailed notes on their teacher’s weaknesses to try and strike when the time is right and to collect that huge check!
