Lycoris Recoil — Episode 1 Recap

Spread the love

Episode 1 of Lycoris Recoil wastes no time throwing viewers into a world where peace is quietly maintained through unseen force. The story opens with a tense operation carried out by a group of highly trained girls known as “Lycoris,” who act as covert agents preventing crime before it even begins.

We’re immediately introduced to Takina Inoue, a disciplined and no-nonsense operative. During a mission involving an arms deal in a subway, things take a turn when Takina makes a controversial decision—prioritizing her teammate’s survival over strict orders. While effective, her actions don’t sit well with the organization.

As a result, Takina is transferred out of the main branch and reassigned to a quieter, more unconventional location: Café LycoReco. This café serves as a front for Lycoris operations, blending everyday life with undercover work.

Here, Takina meets Chisato Nishikigi, a bright, energetic, and highly skilled agent who couldn’t be more different from her. While Takina is rigid and mission-focused, Chisato operates with a unique philosophy—she avoids killing whenever possible and prefers resolving conflicts in her own way, often with surprising efficiency.

The episode shifts in tone as Takina adjusts to this new environment. What seems like a simple café quickly reveals itself as a hub for various odd jobs and missions, handled with a mix of professionalism and unpredictability. Chisato’s carefree attitude clashes with Takina’s seriousness, setting up a dynamic that will clearly drive the story forward.

By the end of the episode, it’s clear that Takina’s reassignment isn’t just a punishment—it’s an opportunity. Surrounded by an unconventional team and led by Chisato’s unorthodox methods, she’s about to experience a completely different side of what it means to be a Lycoris.

My thoughts:

Episode one starts out incredible and not exactly what I was expecting but then again I’m not sure what to expect anymore with any of these anime series these days. The storyline so far really shows on the sidelines or out of the game assassin chilling out in suburbia and a new assassin from the same group as her is sent to her town as punishment for miraculously discharging a firearm to say the least. What an absolute crazy way to start off a series but honestly, the juxtaposition between the two and the constant action is something. I’m looking forward to in future episodes.
