Set in the near future, MF Ghost introduces a world where electric vehicles dominate everyday life—but traditional gas-powered racing hasn’t died out. Instead, it’s evolved into a high-stakes, globally streamed competition known as MFG.
The episode kicks off by showcasing this futuristic racing scene, where cutting-edge tech like AI tracking and drone cameras turn street racing into a massive spectator sport. The stakes are high, the audience is worldwide, and every race feels like a spectacle.
We’re then introduced to Kanata Katagiri, a quiet but highly skilled young driver who has just returned to Japan after training abroad. He enters the MFG competition with a very specific goal in mind—though the show keeps that purpose mostly under wraps for now.
Kanata’s choice of car raises eyebrows: a relatively modest Toyota 86 in a field filled with far more powerful machines. But it quickly becomes clear that raw horsepower isn’t everything. As the race begins, Kanata demonstrates exceptional control, precision, and racing instinct, navigating tight roads and challenging terrain with ease.
The episode builds tension through the race itself, highlighting how strategy, driver skill, and knowledge of the course can rival even the most advanced vehicles. Meanwhile, commentators and spectators begin to take notice of this unexpected newcomer.
There are also subtle nods to the legacy of street racing culture, especially for fans familiar with Initial D, as the series shares thematic DNA and even some connections behind the scenes.
By the end of the episode, Kanata has made a strong impression—proving he’s not just another competitor, but someone to watch closely as the competition unfolds.
My thoughts:
If you are a fan of Forza or Gran Turismo ans anime, this is gonna be the perfect blend above for you. I really was expecting a lot of racing and not very much storyline but it’s quite contrary. The racing is almost secondary at least episode one to the storyline. Of course we have our hero and our heroin. Just one episode there’s already a romance, blossom thing and his career path as a racer. Forging forward pretty quick start to a series. Very excited for more.
