In Episode 8, the stakes are raised as Tsumugi and Ritsu’s “fake engagement” faces its first emotional hurdle—jealousy. This episode dives deeper into the complexities of their growing relationship, introducing a new character who forces Tsumugi and Ritsu to reevaluate their feelings for each other.
Plot Summary
The episode begins with a surprise visit from one of Ritsu’s old friends, Yuki, a vibrant and confident woman who seems to have a strong bond with him. Her casual familiarity with Ritsu immediately puts Tsumugi on edge, especially when Yuki playfully teases him about his engagement.
During an office outing, Yuki’s presence dominates the conversation, leaving Tsumugi feeling like a third wheel. Ritsu, oblivious to her discomfort, doesn’t notice Tsumugi’s growing unease. Later, a passing comment from Yuki about how “perfect” Ritsu and Tsumugi seem as a couple catches both of them off guard, planting seeds of doubt and reflection.
The episode ends with Tsumugi admitting to herself that Yuki’s presence bothered her more than it should have. Meanwhile, Ritsu notices Tsumugi’s unusually quiet demeanor, leaving him to wonder if he’s done something wrong.
Character Development
- Tsumugi: For the first time, Tsumugi confronts emotions she can’t easily categorize—her jealousy highlights how much she’s begun to care for Ritsu, even if she doesn’t fully realize it yet.
- Ritsu: While still seemingly oblivious to his own emotions, Ritsu begins to show concern for Tsumugi’s feelings, marking a subtle shift in his character.
Themes Explored
- Jealousy and Self-Reflection: The introduction of Yuki serves as a catalyst for both Tsumugi and Ritsu to reflect on their feelings, even if they aren’t ready to address them directly.
- Awareness of Emotions: The episode subtly explores the idea that emotions can sneak up on people, especially in relationships where the boundaries between pretense and reality are already blurred.
Final Thoughts
Episode 8 delivers a compelling mix of humor, tension, and emotional depth, setting the stage for future developments in Tsumugi and Ritsu’s relationship. With jealousy now in the mix, the question remains: how long can they keep pretending before their true feelings come to light?
My Thoughts:
The real life emotions of being engaged are setting in and the coworkers around the office seem to be the most excited and are also seeking their true loves.
Honda, specifically recruits his newly engaged friend for advice on the dating apps as he has followed “cutie after cutie” with little to no results; until finally one cutie shows up and is well above his expectations! Looks like Takuya may not be the only employee getting engaged in the office :).
Unfortunately or maybe fortunately this one amazing irl experience from the app has Gonda convinced apps are the way to true love.
