Episode 4 of Dan Da Dan amps up the stakes as Ken and Momo find themselves entangled in another chaotic encounter with both spirits and aliens. This episode offers a perfect blend of supernatural intrigue and heart-racing action, moving the plot forward while deepening the mystery around Ken’s newfound powers and Momo’s connection to the paranormal.
Plot Summary
The episode begins with Ken and Momo trying to return to their usual routines after the previous night’s battle. However, they quickly realize there’s no going back to normal—something strange is still following them. Both are now magnets for supernatural phenomena and extraterrestrial attention, and their troubles seem far from over.
Things escalate when a powerful spirit attacks them on the way home, but it’s not alone. In a bizarre twist, the spirit seems to have some kind of connection with the aliens Ken encountered in the first episode. The two forces appear to be in conflict, with Ken and Momo caught right in the middle of the supernatural showdown.
The duo is forced to fight on two fronts—Momo using her spiritual abilities to keep the aggressive spirit at bay while Ken, still adapting to his alien powers, fends off another wave of extraterrestrial interference. As the battle reaches its climax, Ken’s abilities manifest in new and unpredictable ways, hinting at deeper layers to his alien connection that even he doesn’t understand.
Character Dynamics
This episode places a greater focus on the growing trust between Ken and Momo. Momo, typically the more grounded and confident of the two, begins to rely more on Ken’s evolving strength, showing that they’re truly becoming a team. Meanwhile, Ken gains confidence in his abilities, determined to pull his weight and protect Momo when things go south.
The episode also offers brief but meaningful glimpses into Momo’s emotional side. As the supernatural events become more dangerous, we see her express genuine concern for Ken—something that contrasts with her usual cool demeanor. Their banter remains playful, but there’s a clear shift toward deeper friendship and mutual support.
Themes and Tone
Episode 4 builds on the themes of trust and self-discovery that were introduced earlier in the series. Both Ken and Momo are beginning to understand that their partnership is essential—not just for survival, but also for personal growth. Ken’s evolving powers symbolize his journey of self-acceptance, while Momo’s increasing reliance on Ken highlights the importance of vulnerability and trust.
The episode also hints at a larger mystery connecting the paranormal and extraterrestrial worlds, leaving viewers with plenty to speculate about. Are these forces enemies, or are they working toward a common goal? This intriguing question adds a layer of suspense that keeps the story engaging.
Animation and Action
Once again, the animation does not disappoint. The battle sequences are fluid and energetic, with vibrant effects showcasing the contrast between Momo’s spiritual abilities and Ken’s alien powers. The creative use of camera angles and lighting intensifies the action, giving each scene a dynamic and cinematic feel. The designs of the spirits and aliens are eerie and unique, further reinforcing the series’ blend of horror and sci-fi.
My Thoughts:
The battle to take down turbo granny is not an easy one. Both Ken and Momo are stretched to their limits trying to defeat the evil villain. The music and animation on this episode are absolutely perfect!
At the end of the two at least outrunning turbo granny we get a little more information and background on the disgruntled granny and why she is so bent on destruction.
