Bleach Season 1, Episode 3: “The Older Brother’s Wish, the Younger Sister’s Wish”

Spread the love

In the third episode of “Bleach,” titled “The Older Brother’s Wish, the Younger Sister’s Wish,” the series delves deeper into the emotional consequences of becoming a Soul Reaper. This episode explores the human side of the supernatural world, emphasizing the impact of Hollows on the living and the lingering emotions that bind souls to the world.

The Past Comes to Haunt

The episode focuses on the story of Sado “Chad” Yasutora, a towering but kind-hearted classmate of Ichigo’s who becomes entangled in the world of the supernatural. Chad’s storyline is a poignant reminder that the world of Bleach is not just about battles and spirits but also about the emotional weight that these supernatural encounters carry.

Chad comes into possession of a cursed bird, which brings with it a series of misfortunes. Ichigo and Rukia discover that the bird is haunted by the spirit of a young boy who is being hunted by a Hollow. The boy’s spirit is filled with sorrow, as he was tragically killed in a car accident, and his spirit has been unable to move on because of his attachment to his older brother, who promised they would always be together.

A Hollow’s Tragic Backstory

As Ichigo and Rukia investigate, they uncover the heartbreaking story behind the Hollow that is after the boy. The Hollow, as it turns out, is the boy’s older brother, who became a Hollow out of despair and regret after dying in a car accident shortly after his brother. The episode reveals the tragic nature of Hollows, showing that they are not just monsters but tormented souls who have lost their way.

Ichigo, driven by his sense of justice, decides to save both the boy and his older brother, offering them a chance at redemption. The battle with the Hollow is intense, but it is the emotional resolution that leaves a lasting impact. By purifying the Hollow, Ichigo helps the brothers find peace, allowing them to reunite in the afterlife.

Conclusion

“The Older Brother’s Wish, the Younger Sister’s Wish” is a powerful episode that highlights the emotional depth of “Bleach.” It introduces the idea that Hollows are not inherently evil but are often victims of their own unresolved emotions. The episode also strengthens the bond between Ichigo and his friends, particularly Chad, who is beginning to sense that there is more to Ichigo than meets the eye. This episode sets the tone for future arcs that explore the humanity of the characters and the consequences of the supernatural battles they fight.

My Thoughts:

Finally in episode 3 it starts to pick up and Ichicgo finally feels the need to use his big sword, honorably defend woman and other hero-like things!!!

This episode sees Ichigo going back and forth violently may I add, with a devil spirit that is trying to take his girl (well kind of).. this is the badass action scenes I was waiting for and quite frankly expecting out of this anime and specifically Ichigo.

Episode three also starts to explain the hollows, the dead and the difference. This is getting interesting and very much excited to consume more of it.

Be sure to watch episode 3 of Bleach and leave your thought and comments below.
