My Hero Academia Season 1 Episode 1: A Hero’s Journey Begins

Spread the love

The world of “My Hero Academia” opens up with a bang in its first episode, “Izuku Midoriya: Origin.” This debut episode introduces us to a universe where nearly 80% of the population possesses some form of superpower, known as “Quirks.” Yet, it is within this extraordinary world that we meet our seemingly ordinary protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, whose dream of becoming a hero feels almost impossible due to his lack of a Quirk.

A World Full of Heroes

The episode starts by setting the scene in a bustling cityscape teeming with heroes and villains, each showcasing their unique abilities. The society in “My Hero Academia” revolves around these superhuman feats, and the profession of being a hero is as revered as it is challenging. This vibrant world, full of action and heroism, captivates viewers right from the start.

Meet Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya, or “Deku” as he is often called, is introduced as an enthusiastic, determined, and somewhat timid young boy. Despite being Quirkless, his admiration for heroes, particularly the legendary All Might, knows no bounds. Deku’s character is immediately endearing; his wide-eyed optimism and relentless spirit in the face of adversity make him a character to root for.

The Harsh Reality

The episode doesn’t shy away from showing the harsh reality of Deku’s situation. In a world where power is everything, being Quirkless makes him an easy target for bullies, including his childhood friend-turned-bully, Katsuki Bakugo. Bakugo, with his explosive Quirk and domineering personality, serves as a stark contrast to Deku’s meekness, highlighting the challenges Deku faces on his path to becoming a hero.

A Chance Encounter

The turning point of the episode, and perhaps Deku’s life, comes with a chance encounter with his idol, All Might. This meeting is a pivotal moment, not just for Deku, but for the series as a whole. All Might’s larger-than-life presence, combined with his unwavering dedication to justice, embodies the ideal hero that Deku aspires to become.

The Heart of a Hero

Despite All Might’s initial dismissal of Deku’s dream, it is Deku’s courage in a life-threatening situation that leaves a lasting impression. When Bakugo is attacked by a villain, Deku, without thinking of his own safety, rushes to help. This act of bravery and selflessness, despite his lack of a Quirk, catches All Might’s attention. It is this moment that truly defines Deku’s character – a true hero at heart, regardless of his abilities.

All Might’s Revelation

The episode concludes with a profound revelation – All Might, in his weakened state, recognizes the potential in Deku. He sees the qualities that make a true hero and decides to invest in Deku’s dream. This sets the stage for Deku’s journey and growth, not just as a hero, but as an individual who will eventually carry the weight of All Might’s legacy.

Final Thoughts

The first episode of “My Hero Academia” masterfully introduces us to a rich, complex world while establishing a strong emotional connection with its protagonist. It sets up the central themes of courage, perseverance, and the true essence of heroism. Deku’s journey from a Quirkless boy to a symbol of hope is one that promises to be both inspiring and exhilarating.

As the episode ends, viewers are left with a sense of anticipation and excitement for what lies ahead. “My Hero Academia” promises to be a story of growth, challenges, and the relentless pursuit of dreams – a journey that we, as the audience, are eager to embark upon alongside Izuku Midoriya.

Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, “My Hero Academia” offers a compelling narrative and characters that resonate deeply. Stay tuned as we continue to explore Deku’s journey and the lessons in heroism that come with it.

My thoughts after re-watching Episode 1:

Episode one of My Hero Acadmeia is a special one for me. Now that I have sold so many of the cards I feel almost obligated to give really detailed accounts of this anime as I know the characters so well.

I’ll avoid boring you guys with the repetitive BS and focus on my perspective of each and every single episode based on my watch or rewatch of that episode itself.

Episode number one for me was always very powerful, as I’m sure it is for most other animes; however the way they are able to bring Deku’s entire backstory, part of All Mights, tie them together and leave us with a cliffhanger in 30 minutes is incredible.

The entire episode is able to be watched and rewatched over and over again and is always a good reference points for memories of Deku and All Might, like my personal favorite from the episode and the set 1 card game “It Can’t Be Fixed”.
