Episode 3 of 365 Days to the Wedding shifts gears slightly, focusing more on the complications of keeping up appearances in front of their coworkers, friends, and even themselves. As Tsumugi and Ritsu continue to play the role of an engaged couple, small cracks in their facade begin to show—both to others and to themselves. The tension between what’s real and what’s fake is gradually building, setting the stage for deeper emotions to surface.
Plot Summary
The episode begins with Tsumugi and Ritsu navigating the aftermath of their engagement party. Just as they think they’ve managed to convince everyone, rumors begin to spread at the office that their relationship seems “too perfect” to be real. To counter these suspicions, the two must start acting more naturally as a couple, which proves harder than expected.
In an effort to solidify their act, Ritsu suggests they spend more time together outside of work to get to know each other better. This leads to an awkward but endearing “practice date” at a local park, where they share conversations about their childhoods and personal habits. However, the date also reveals the emotional distance they both maintain, hinting that their personal walls might take time to come down.
The episode ends with a cliffhanger when one of Ritsu’s old friends from school appears unexpectedly, suspicious of his sudden engagement, adding another layer of complexity to their already-complicated situation.
Character Development
Episode 3 provides more insight into Tsumugi and Ritsu’s personalities. Tsumugi shows a softer, more vulnerable side when talking about her childhood and her experiences growing up. This makes her seem less rigid and more relatable, as she struggles with balancing authenticity and pretense. Ritsu, on the other hand, reveals hints of regret about missed opportunities for real relationships, though he brushes them off with humor.
Their growing camaraderie is palpable, and even though their relationship is still a facade, small moments—like the shared laughter during their practice date—suggest that they are beginning to enjoy each other’s company more than they expected.
Themes Explored
Emotional Barriers: Both Tsumugi and Ritsu keep each other at arm’s length, but Episode 3 starts to chip away at these emotional walls. Their practice date shows that even in a fake relationship, genuine feelings can sneak through.
Authenticity vs. Appearance: The growing pressure to act natural in public highlights the tension between appearance and authenticity. As Tsumugi and Ritsu struggle to keep up their act, the audience is left wondering when (and if) their feelings will become real.
Social Complications: The sudden appearance of Ritsu’s friend introduces a new complication, raising questions about how long they can keep their relationship believable and what might happen if someone discovers the truth.
Visuals and Animation
The visuals in Episode 3 focus more on outdoor settings, like the park where Tsumugi and Ritsu have their practice date. The soft pastel colors and detailed backgrounds enhance the lighthearted and romantic atmosphere. The character animation subtly captures the awkwardness between the two, especially in their body language, adding humor and charm to their interactions.
My Thoughts:
This series is getting better and better. I’m wondering if they are going to actually fall in love pulling off this plan. They seem to have a lot more in common than originally thought and the family of the groom to be seems to take a liking to his future bride even without knowing it’s ACTUALLY HER.
Also for their jobs, at the travel agency they often times deal with celebrities, which poses a bit of jealousy and drama into this episode.
