The second episode of 365 Days to the Wedding dives deeper into Tsumugi and Ritsu’s newfound “engagement,” giving viewers a closer look at the awkward yet amusing dynamics of their fake relationship. As the charade begins, the two have to adjust to playing a role that neither of them anticipated. Episode 2 builds on the foundation laid in the first episode, adding humor, hints of tension, and a glimpse into the challenges that lie ahead.
Tsumugi and Ritsu officially announce their engagement to their coworkers, and their different personalities quickly begin to clash. Tsumugi, ever the planner, starts to obsess over small details to make their relationship look believable. Meanwhile, Ritsu takes a more relaxed approach, believing they only need to be convincing when necessary. This contrast results in a few hilarious moments, especially when their colleagues unexpectedly quiz them about their relationship history.
The situation escalates when the company decides to throw an engagement party for them, leaving Tsumugi and Ritsu scrambling to prepare. From deciding on stories about how they “met” to figuring out how they’ll act as a couple in public, the episode focuses on the growing complexity of their fake engagement.
This episode gives us a better understanding of the emotional walls both characters have built around themselves. Tsumugi’s anxiety about being discovered highlights her insecurities and fear of failure, while Ritsu’s laid-back nature hints at his reluctance to invest emotionally in relationships. However, small moments of genuine connection between them—like the playful banter over coffee—suggest that they are starting to get comfortable in each other’s company.
Trust and Teamwork: Episode 2 subtly touches on the importance of trust as Tsumugi and Ritsu realize they need to work together to make the charade successful. Their contrasting personalities force them to communicate and rely on one another, setting the stage for future emotional growth.
Social Expectations: The engagement party highlights how much pressure society places on couples to conform to relationship milestones. Tsumugi and Ritsu’s discomfort at the event serves as a reminder that even pretending to meet societal expectations can be overwhelming.
The animation in Episode 2 maintains the soft, warm aesthetic introduced in the premiere. The subtle facial expressions, especially during the awkward and funny moments between Tsumugi and Ritsu, enhance the humor and make the characters feel relatable. The background details, such as the office setting and the cozy coffee shop, add to the realism of the story, grounding the narrative in everyday experiences.
In the beginning of episode two our hero and heroine are still trying to pull off this sham marriage to prevent their transfer to Alaska, but things might be a little more complicated than originally planned.
From a mysterious call it appears as if one of their coworkers might be on to them… the plot thickens. Also enter the family issues. The groom to be’s father shows up unannounced to make declarations of how grand and big the ceremony must be for their family’s honor.
